Alphalite bricks and blocks are made from a patented combination of bi-product materials, primarily sourced from within 1km of the Brick and Block Company’s main production plant.
Alphalite is 30% lighter than standard concrete masonry. This reduces the transport emissions wdelivering Brick and Block’s masonry units.
The fly-ash in Alphalite masonry acts as a cement enhancer, providing extra strength and durability. Alphalite is “Exposure Grade” (as per AS3700:2001 & AS4456.10).
Alphalite is kiln-cured, but unlike clay masonry units, the heat is low and largely exothermic, with some steam added for even curing.
This low embodied energy combines with higher durability to make a favourable life-cycle analysis; at the close of which, Alphalite masonry can be crushed and re-used.
Our other operations include the production of pre-mixed concrete and the extraction of aggregates and sand. The extraction process requires that we progressively restore the environment during the quarry's life.
We strive to minimise dust emissions as well as noise.
We believe rigorous, long term planning is the key to maintaining our environment for the future. BBC operations are measured against established standards and improvements are continually sought.
