Prayer as relationship and Surrender

During his time on earth Jesus had a natural rhythm of time in prayer with his Father.  Later, the early church as seen through Acts, followed that same sort of rhythm.  Sadly, today it seems that what was essential for the early church has somehow become optional for many believers.  So that begs the questions of why do we pray and what does prayer actually do.
